Summary

María del Mar Herrador del Pino was born in Almería (Spain) in 1954 and studied Pharmacy at the University of Granada, where he graduated in 1976. She received her Ph.D. degree in 1981 under the supervision of Prof. J. Saenz de Buruaga Lerena. From 1983, she is a senior lecturer. She is joined Prof. A. F Barrero’s group in 1998.

Keywords

Natural Product Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Biomimetic Synthesis, Biotechnology of filamentous fungi

Research Interest

Her research interests are directed towards the use of natural sintons and the development of new methods for the synthesis of molecules having biological activity. Thus, in the course of the achievement of a number of first total enantioselective synthesis of bioactive compounds, including podolactones, elemanes, eudesmanes…, different new synthetic strategies have been discovered, that is, transition metals-promoted radical cyclization of epoxypolyprenes, homocoupling of allylic halides or selective functionalizations of polyprenes. She is also interested in the biotechnology of filamentous fungi, including Gibberella fujikuroi and Phycomyces blakesleanus.
