José Francisco Quílez del Moral was born in Linares (Spain) in 1967 and studied Chemistry at the University of Granada, where he graduated in 1990. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1996 under the supervision of Prof. A. F. Barrero. In 1997, he started a 20 month post-doctotal fellowship with Prof. S. Arseniyadis at the Institut de Chimie des Substances Naturelles at Gif-sur Yvette (France) working on the total synthesis of taxol. He returned to Granada as assistant professor and joined Prof. A. F Barrero’s group in 1998. He is currently a senior lecturer.
Natural Product Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Biomimetic Synthesis
His research interests are directed towards the development of new methods for the synthesis of molecules having biological activity. Thus, in the course of the achievement of a number of first total enantioselective synthesis of bioactive compounds, including podolactones, myrrhanols, elemanes…, different new synthetic strategies have been discovered, that is, transition metals-promoted radical cyclization of epoxypolyprenes, homocoupling of allylic halides or selective functionalizations of polyprenes .
